Wednesday, Dec. 3: One-hour late start for most schools.
Teachers will use this time to work together to implement best practices of high-quality instruction. Students will be released at the usual times.
Friday, Dec. 5: Deadline to refer a student to the Aspire program.
The Aspire program serves students who demonstrate advanced academic abilities or potential. Get the details on the process of submitting a referral.
Replacement of expiring student educational programs and operations levy
Battle Ground’s board of directors has approved a replacement educational programs and operations levy to appear on the ballot for an election on Feb. 10, 2026.
Even after the district made budget cuts for the current school year, state and federal funding alone do not cover the rising costs to educate 13,000 students in 19 schools. Starting in January 2026, Battle Ground Public Schools will be the only Southwest Washington school district without a local educational programs and operations levy.
If approved, the levy would support:
Student safety, discipline and assistant principals
Smaller class sizes
Special education
Teachers
Nursing
Counselors and mental health support
Sports/extracurricular activities
And more
The levy also would support:
Programs that help give students the skills and knowledge for today's economy so that they leave school prepared for a wide range of career and study options
Current career and technical education classes and programs
Classes that help students prepare if they are going to college
Curricula that are up to date and address the knowledge and skills that students need to enter the workforce

School board meeting recap
The Battle Ground Public Schools board of directors met on Monday, Nov. 24, for a special meeting/work session and regular meeting. See a video and summary of the meetings. The meetings included:
Recognition of the November 2025 Employee Recognition Award recipients
Resolution No. N-25 regarding the replacement of an expired student educational programs and operations levy.
Appointment of the required committees for and against the levy.
Revised policy 6220 regarding the requirements for bids or requests for proposal.
First reading of policy 3425 regarding accommodations for students with adrenal insufficiency
Revised policy 2020 regarding course design, selection and adoption of instructional materials
Revised policy 2021 regarding library information and technology programs
Revised policy 5000 regarding the recruitment, selection and evaluation of staff
Revised policy 5260 regarding personnel reports
The board’s next meeting will be Monday, Dec. 8 at the Lewisville campus and streaming online. It will begin with a work session/special meeting at 4 p.m. The topic is school improvement plans. The regular meeting will follow at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend both meetings.
Snow routes now available
In the event of inclement weather, buses may need to travel special routes to get students to school safely. See the snow route for your child’s bus. Get more information about our winter weather procedures, including how parents and guardians will be notified of snow routes and/or other schedule changes.
Career and Technical Education showcase
Parents and guardians of 8th-11th graders: Before your child chooses classes for next year, attend the Career and Technical Education showcase on Dec. 11 to learn about courses that students can take in the following areas:

Human services
Health sciences
Skilled, technical and engineering
Business and marketing
Digital and visual communication

River HomeLink presents Descendants: The Musical
Come visit the magical world of Auradon as villains and royals learn that what's on the surface doesn't always reflect what's in the heart. You'll be dancing in your seat to an energetic blend of pop and rock musical numbers as you go on a journey of understanding and cooperation that proves we really are better together! The show runs Dec. 5-13. Tickets may be purchased online, in the River HomeLink office or at the door.
Report, don't repost

BGPS Industry Fair set for Feb. 19
Save the date! The 11th annual Battle Ground Public Schools Industry Fair will be held at Battle Ground High School on Thursday, Feb. 19, from 5-7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Come meet with local employers to learn about apprenticeship opportunities and employment in fields such as health care, education, manufacturing, technology, construction and many more. There will also be a resume workshop in the high school’s career center from 4-6 p.m.
