FUTURES program

Futures builds skills to foster independence in the areas of employment, life skills and community interactions for students ages 18-21 with disabilities.

  • Work at on-campus worksite, The Battle Ground Barkery

  • Work at off-campus worksites throughout Battle Ground and Vancouver

  • Schedules are individualized based on student needs

  • Interaction with supervisors at worksites

  • Worksites provide students with learning opportunities in a variety of settings to gain valuable experience and discover possible career paths

Life skills

  • Employment skills

  • Public transportation training

  • Cooking and grocery shopping

  • Budgeting

  • Household chores

  • Appropriate social behavior

  • Restaurant etiquette

Community interactions

  • Healthy recreational activities

  • Appropriate social behavior

  • Community resources

  • Real world social interactions

The Futures program may be a great fit for students who:

  • Are between 18-21 years old

  • Adapt well to change

  • Demonstrate appropriate behavior in the community

  • Carry and use ID

  • Have a successful attendance record

  • Are able to spend part of the day unsupervised

  • Have the ability to work independently at work sites

  • Have the ability to learn to ride public transportation

  • Have  a stabilized health condition

  • Have independent self-care management

  • Have time management skills

  • Are willing to participate in the program

  • Have prior on-the-job work experience

  • Are or are willing to be connected with DDA and DVR services

  • Have independent communication skills or an assistive device

Battle Ground Barkery

As part of their vocational training, students with disabilities make handmade, all natural, preservative-free dog treats, or “doggie biscotti.”
