Homeless program
Support for Students and Families Experiencing Homelessness
Battle Ground Public Schools supports students and families who are experiencing homelessness. Under the McKinney-Vento Act, a student is considered homeless if they do not have a fixed, regular, and adequate place to sleep at night. This may include:
Staying in shelters, motels, cars, campgrounds, or other temporary housing
Living with friends or relatives because of loss of housing or financial hardship
Staying in places not meant for regular sleeping, such as parks or abandoned buildings
Students experiencing homelessness have the right to:
Enroll in school right away, even without documents like proof of address or immunizations
Stay in their school of origin and receive transportation if needed
Access free school meals, Title I academic supports, and extracurricular activities
Get connected to additional district and community services
Our district also has a Family and Community Resource Center (FCRC) that helps families with basic needs, referrals, and connections to local resources. Learn more here.
