U.S. Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps

Welcome to the United States Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) at Prairie High School. Our program is based on the core values of integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do. We offer students opportunities to develop their character through discipline, leadership, life skills, physical fitness, team building and community service.

The JROTC program is run for the cadets, by the cadets. They occupy leadership positions within the Corps of Cadets and are responsible for day-to-day management of the Corps. Our senior and junior cadets fulfill the functions of an Air Force Group Staff. The cadets are challenged to follow and lead, but they incur NO military obligations in this program. JROTC’s primary mission is to make better citizens. The Air Force JROTC program has no recruiting goals or ties to the Air Force Recruiting Service.

JROTC exposes cadets to leadership experiences that can be found in no other activity in high school. Cadets will earn high school credit and learn life skills they can use long after they graduate.

The minimum commitment is to enroll in one JROTC academic class, wear the uniform once each week, and participate in eight co-curricular events during the school year. Students must be physically qualified to participate fully in the physical education program, maintain acceptable standards of conduct and comply with specified personal grooming standards. We encourage each cadet to participate in at least one extra-curricular team or club and volunteer in offered community service activities.
